CBT Treatment

CBT or Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a talking therapy recommended by NICE (National Institute of Clinical Excellence) for the treatment of a wide range of emotional and physical health problems such as anxiety, depression, trauma and chronic pain. When feeling worried or distressed we often fall into patterns of thinking and responding which can worsen how we feel. CBT helps us notice and change problematic thinking styles or behaviour patterns so we can feel better. CBT has lots of strategies that can help you in the here and now. Dependant on the nature of your difficulties this may also mean that we need to consider earlier life experiences.

The number of sessions you will need depends on your specific difficulties. Usually this will be between 8 and 12 sessions. Often you will be required to work on tasks between sessions and these tasks will be agreed between you and your therapist at a pace you are comfortable with.
